Standing in the middle of the road will get you run over

March 19, 2015 by

One of the more difficult and rewarding things is to make a stand for something in life. Yet today, in this world of polling and political correctness, as well as our inherent desire to be liked, many people won’t take a stand. Those people that stand out or stood out to you in life had one particular trait in common. When it came time to make a decision and stand on an issue, they did not shy away. Even from a practical standpoint, it would be unwise to stand in the middle of the street with traffic coming from both directions. In the same mindset, there are many people that have been swept away by the crowd or found themselves in an uncomfortable situation because they would not make a choice in regards to an issue. There is an old saying that those that will not stand for something will fall for anything. Taking a stand in some cases may not be popular, but you may have the one perspective that will have a lasting positive effect on the larger crowd. You are unique and have a perspective that is based on your life experiences and do not allow the world or other people to dictate how you see things. Be bold, be courageous, be firm in your convictions, and when life presents you options, make the choice versus being overrun by the crowd. Because those that stand in the middle of the road will eventually get run over.

Get Out of Your Own Head

I’m not saying that what may be going on in your life is not real or should be ignored. I am simply stating that there is much virtue and value in considering others and being a blessing and a benefit to others. I have seen in my own life and the lives of others that I know that when things are coming at me in life, that I don’t seem to have the desire or energy to be there for others. Yet, the times that I lifted my head and looked up, I found others who appeared to be worse off than me. I learned some lessons from this as well. One was that when I get out of my own head and don’t allow myself to be consumed with thoughts of self, that I can actually be of assistance to others. Also, when others get out of their own heads, they may be the resource that I may need to find clarity in moments of fog. So this week I want each of us to fight the impulse to be focused internally and make our energies and efforts on those we are uniquely qualified to help. When we are out of our own heads, the world becomes a more helping place filled with giving and receiving. Have a wonderful day and blessed week. I believe in you and looking out for you and hopefully you are looking out for others as well.

You may be flawed but you are amazing

January 30, 2015 by

As I was flying back from my latest trip I began to reflect on how amazing people truly can be. Not one of us is without a flaw of some type, yet flawed people do some of the most amazing things. Flawed people create, innovate, and chart new courses every day for others to follow. The key is to not focus on the things that may cause you to be flawed, but to embrace and maximize your unique talents, as well as your abilities to overcome any challenge. Some of the greatest lessons I’ve learned are from people who took their shortcomings and turned them into strengths, their tests became testimonies and they did not hide the fact of challenges they had to overcome. They overcame many of these flaws by prayer, dedication, preparation, and determination and now are the example for many of us to follow and grow from. The world is waiting to hear and see how you made it from the rough seas to smooth sailing.  You will be the change that you want to see.  So if you stumble in life, get up, dust yourself off and move out. So take your flawed self out and do something amazing, starting today!

Your best chapter begins now

January 7, 2015 by

With the changing of the calendar, there has been much to reflect on. I’ve been off the grid for a bit doing some reflecting as well as getting postured for the new year. So with that being said I want you to understand that you are still here for a reason. Lately, so many people have been leaving this earth and things have been moving around us at what appears to be a much quicker pace. It is important to pay respect and honor to those that may no longer be here, but if we want to truly show honor and respect, then I offer the following for your consideration. The best way to pay homage to something is to demonstrate the attributes and the concepts the person that you are honoring portrayed. So it’s vital to internalize that you are still around for a purpose and an impact. No matter what you had to go through to get to today, you are here and you still have chapters that need to be written. You are the only one that can write the end of your story. Fight the impulse to pick up old habits and attitudes that don’t advance your positive narrative. So the best time to get started is now. You see we all need each other, because when I see you fighting the good fight of faith, it will help embolden me to keep moving in the right direction. The only chapter that really matters is the one that you are crafting now, because the others are in the past and written in stone and cannot be altered. Don’t focus on this year or month so much, but let today be the one that propels you into a new mindset, focus, and direction to be the best. No other person has your DNA, so stop comparing yourself to someone else and maximize the unique aspects of you. I can’t wait to see what you are going to do and evolve to be. So go and get it. God bless you!

Check Your Roster

There is so much going on in our world today, and each of us find ourselves fighting to stay focused on the things that add value to our journey. Typically along our path we enlist people to join us as we attempt to move ahead. In many ways we become a part of their team and they become a part of their team. Each person on your team has a role to play in the success of each endeavor. These team represent relationships, businesses, as well as personal pursuits.  Some roles may be more active than others, but all roles are important. That is why I believe it is important to routinely evaluate each person’s value on the team. You see it is going to take every bit of energy and focus to achieve your God-given purpose and you don’t have time for unneeded and unproductive distractions. People get on teams for many reasons; some do it for shared vision and success, some do it for a sense of belonging, some even do it to be a disruption because they thrive on drama. So don’t assume just because someone said that they are with you that they are really with you. Each participant on your team should be evaluated and based on that evaluation there may be conversations that you may have to have with them. Hopefully they will consist of thanking them for their great support and teamwork, if this is the case then you have a finely tuned team. Then some of them may be feedback stating what needs to be done to improve on the team aspect of your relationship. This will go one of two ways, they will either get back on board or they may walk towards the nearest exit. The bottom line is when you do this with love, kindness, and honesty then the right thing will happen. You see the goals you have in life are about purposes and impact and you must never lose sight of that, and whoever is truly on board will be on board. I am thankful that we are all supporting one another on each others’ team. Have a wonderful day and make sure that your team remains tight and intact.
